When Charlie got to Heaven, carried on a comfy cat throne by the angels, feathers flying in the air with all the cat nip he could fathom like a king worshipped just like those the Egyptians bowed to, he thought to himself: "Wait a minute. Is this right?"
"Yes, it is. I am a king."
He then allowed himself to be whisked into the aromas of seafood, lightness, angelic leaps and bounds without a care in the world where illness and limits knew no such things and he would soon be introduced to new and shiny toys and lofts of glory in the way of cat lounges that drifted into the clouds.
At this moment however, he was gently placed down at a cat tea party where some felines were gathered.
A Calico leaned toward him, "Welcome," she said. "Who was your owner?"
Charlie said, "Cindy."
The Calico named Eunice tilted her head and sipped her tea before asking, "It wouldn't possibly be Cindy Persico, would it?"
Charlie then sat up tall and proud, a big grin spreading throughout his furry face.
"Why, yes it was!" he exclaimed.
Eunice put her cup down, her eyes wide.
"Mine too! We were so lucky!"
They grabbed paws in excitement.
Eunice tapped a black and white cat next to her on the shoulder and whispered in her fur ear as the feline's eyes grew wide.
"I'm Edna!" the black and white cat practically shouted, coming over to Charlie and hugging him. "How long did you have with Cindy?"
"15 years!" Charlie said, embarrassed.
Edna said, "Wow!"
"Ethel, get over here," Eunice summoned her Calico partner who was busy grooming.
Ethel, who had lived with Cindy in the 80s, came around and hugged Charlie's neck boldly.
"I watch over Cindy as we all do," she said.
"I'm worried about her," Charlie said. "I want her to know that I'm just resting in her heart and that I'm really still with her and my sister Firecracker who is a tortoiseshell Calico."
"She will be okay. She will hurt for awhile like she did when I came up here but that is natural," Eunice said. "She will dream about you but that is your way of being close to her."
Charlie hoped Cindy knew that he would always be with her and that in heaven it is beautiful and he was no longer in pain, suffering, and could see and feel her any time. He wanted her to know that she was the best mom in the world and that when she adopted him he hit the jack pot. He wanted to take away her pain now and if there was any way he could, he would.
But most of all he didn't want her to feel any guilt at all, thinking there was something more she could have done because he knew she did all she could and more.
